Pineapples provide natural source of sugar and citric acid. The taste is somewhat sweet and sour - when you eat it the citric acid helps to clean internal stomach and teeth. That's the benefit of acid corrosive nature.
Apart from eating the slices of pineapples - there are many others ways for example it can be blend into pineapple juice, or cook with meat to provide the natural sweet and sour to name a few.
